SIELE: exams and certificates
What is SIELE?
SIELE is the Spanish acronym for the Servicio Internacional de Evaluación de la Lengua Española (International Spanish Language Evaluation Service), a service that evaluates and certifies the level of Spanish mastery using electronic means, intended for students and professionals on every continent.
The sponsors of this initiative are the Cervantes Institute, the Autonomous National University of Mexico, the University of Salamanca and the University of Buenos Aires, which ensures quality standards and good practices in the administration of the tests and in the use of the different linguistic varieties of the Hispanic world.
Instituto Hemingway participates as a SIELE exam center in Bilbao and is one of 25 centers selected and recognized by the SIELE in Spain to manage and oversee the exams at our facilities in Bilbao.
SIELE certifies the level of competence in the Spanish language through four tests: Reading comprehension, listening comprehension, written expression and interaction and oral expression and interaction; it uses as a reference the levels established under the European Council’s Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
SIELE is the first digital certificate for the level of mastery of Spanish, with international recognition and a score with correspondence with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). A quick and convenient way to demonstrate your Spanish level.

DELE: exams and certificates
What is DELE?
The Spanish DELE diplomas are official qualifications accrediting the level of competence and mastery of the Spanish language, issued by the Cervantes Institute on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports.
The DELE exams are designed according to the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
The general DELE exams are intended for a literate public of all ages, although they target an adult public 16 years of age or older. Two DELE exams are also offered for Spanish schoolchildren, intended for Spanish students between 11 and 17 years of age.
Instituto Hemingway participates as a DELE exam center in Bilbao, as one of the centers selected and recognized by the Cervantes Institute in Spain to manage and oversee the exams at our facilities in Bilbao.
DELE accredits the level of competence and mastery of the Spanish language. DELE diplomas are internationally recognized and have great prestige, not only among public and private institutions and educational authorities, but also in the business world and among chambers of commerce. They are an official guarantee in the evaluation and certification of linguistic competence in Spanish.
Candidates can register for any of the DELE exams without the need to have previously taken any specific course or having first taken any lower level DELE or other Spanish exams.
In case of both the general DELE exams and those for schoolchildren, the DELE Spanish Diplomas are officially valid, never expire and are internationally recognized.
